For many women, it’s nothing short of getting their life back!

What causes overly large breasts?

Most often it’s just plain genetics, but other factors can include Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), pregnancy, and breastfeeding.

Getting the Shape You Want

So, what’s the next step once you’ve decided to get a breast reduction at Advanced Aesthetics Surgery & Laser Center in Champaign, IL?) It’s really a four-part process: a consultation, a physical examination, surgery, and recovery.

Your Consultation is important.

This is where Dr. Kurley shares over 20 years of his expertise and experience in successful breast reduction with you. You will learn what you want your breasts to look like, as well as to let you know if what you envision is realistic for your body frame. For instance, you may be so anxious to be relieved of the discomforts of your large breasts that you want a radical reduction.

While that can work, it also depends on your body frame. In your personalized consultation, Dr. Kurley will help you to understand which reduction procedures are appropriate for you. You can discuss these options and decide together which route to take.

Your Physical Exam.

Several lifestyle factors can influence a good outcome for your breast reduction.

Health – it is important to be in good health both physically and mentally – before going into surgery.

  • Lifestyle habits – if you are a smoker, please quit smoking now (smoking lowers the body’s ability to deliver important oxygen to all of the organs – very important during surgery and recovery)
  • If you are under the age of 18, you will be encouraged to wait until your breasts have stopped growing before undertaking a breast reduction.

Your Breast Reduction Surgery. Dr. Kurley performs your breast reduction with general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art, fully accredited surgical suite located right in Advanced Aesthetics Surgery & Laser Center in Champaign, IL.

Lasting about 3 – 4 hours, excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed through a combination of vertical and breast fold incisions. The nipple-areolar complex is then moved and repositioned to create the desired natural looking breast shape and contour. Because breast reduction surgery is major surgery, some scarring is expected, however, scars generally fade well over time.

Your Recovery.

You will notice a difference in breast size immediately. While some complications are possible, you like many others, will most likely heal quickly and now be incredibly happy with your results.

You will go home in a bra with only light bandages over the incision sutures, which are usually removed in 2 – 3 weeks. You will continue to wear a surgical bra – for two to three weeks, around the clock. Again, this promotes healing and helps to ensure you get the breasts you want.

Any initial discomfort is well controlled with oral medication. You may resume light activities in 7 to 10 days. However, you will want to avoid strenuous exercise for two to three weeks and be extremely gentle with your breasts for at least six weeks following your breast reduction.

After breast reduction at Advanced Aesthetics Surgery & Laser Center in Champaign, IL, you will notice many new things, besides the smaller breasts. You may notice that your back, neck and shoulder aches are improved. You may notice your posture improving. You may notice how much easier it is to find clothes you like and that fit. And most importantly, you may feel better about yourself. And what is more important than that?
